Endocrinology

Endocrinology is the medical specialty that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the endocrine system.

The endocrine system is the totality of the endocrine glands. Endocrine glands produce chemicals called hormones that regulate the functions of the entire body. Any change to them can have severe consequences.

Among the most common endocrinological conditions we list: hyperthyroidism (too much thyroid hormone), hypothyroidism (too little thyroid hormone), autoimmune thyroiditis or goiter (enlargement of the thyroid gland). The thyroid is an organ located in the neck region.

Diabetes, polycystic ovary syndrome or osteoporosis are also conditions closely related to the endocrine system.

Endocrinology also deals with eating behavior disorders, such as anorexia, bulimia or obesity, pathologies that are increasingly common especially among teenagers.

Endocrine gland disorders are complex. In order to make a diagnosis, there are a series of analyzes and investigations that are recommended by specialist endocrinologists.
